musicandme So, I started this little project because I wanted to look back and find some icons that I remember wanting to save again in ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif){kind=small}
url_girl's journal. It started out innocently enough. Then, I just kept going through icons and posts after posts of really memorable moments that I wanted to post about for nostalgia purposes. Finally, I just decided to turn it into a Ree Raid Project.
Fandom is an interesting place. Ultimately, fandom can be a very happy place and I think that Ree's journal is that happy place. She's posted icons, written stories, pastede on hedz that make everyone laugh. She's not selfish with her offerings, always willing to share something that she finds with everyone so that many can see what they may not be able to see where they are (example: Qaf alum activities but particularly Gale and Randy). So, in honor of her birthday and her five year anniversary here on LJ, we have the Ode to Ree.
Ree's first icons date back to August 16, 2004. Now, I've always loved her icons. Why? You know you have a great icon maker when they immediately catch your eye (in a good way). Look at her sense of humor:

Now the second set of icons on August 30, 2004 have one of my favorite icons of all time:
Come on. It's true. Chuckle, yes. Giggle? No.
I could probably take all of my favorite icons from every single post I looked through but why should I pick when you should pick for yourselves?. I'm doing it. I'll put in some icons and then you go see how awesome they are in her journal. Kay? Kay. Ree never fails to put a smile on someone's face even for something as simple as an icon.
We have idols modeled after the Queer Eye From the Straight Guy logos: September 16, 2004. Remember when Queer Eye was just huge? That was the year of Queer. Well, I'd say that it was 2003-2005 as far as television goes. It was the year that Gale was on the Vanity Fair cover. Notice how I leave out that Carson Kressley and the Will and Grace gang was on it too? Yeah.
Another set of my favorite icons arrived on October 2, 2004. Save a horse, ride a cowboy. Indeed.
I need to stop calling saying "my favorite icons" because all of them are my favorite icons. So, here are the Qaf/South Park themed icons that are ten kinds of funny. This set had little southpark!Justin's head bleeding. :( I didn't even crack the surface in this small portion I picked out. October 5, 2004.
Ree had this lovely little feature in her journal called "episode briefs" which were icons based on Qaf episodes. Of course she adds her Reeface touch which makes them all funny and hot and gorgeous. So, the following are the episode briefs from her journal:
October 24, 2004: Episode 110.
October 30, 2004: Episode 111.
November 10, 2004: Episode 112.
December 22, 2004: Episode 113.
January 6, 2005: Episode 114.
March 29, 2005: Episode 115.

I remember the day those black and white photos of Gale's came out. Fandom exploded, melted into a puddle of goo, and then Ree made icons of his hotness to drool over.
WE WUZ ROBBED OF A JUSTIN LICKING BRIAN'S CHEST SCENE. WERE WE NOT?! Oh, Cowlip. You taunt me with promises of what's to come only to take it away from me. Thankfully, they were capped and turned into icons. Brillances? Praise Ree: November 18, 2004.
With the holidays came the Christmas icons. The first one was posted December 1, 2004. On December 10, 2004, we were all wondering the same thing: IS IT MAY YET?! Remember the days of screeners? That's in there too. Do I need to remind you guys of the greatest challenge in fandom? Snowin' and Blowin'? Good. This challenge had all the good stuff: great fic, videos, and graphics (icons)! December 23, 2004. Okay now the next set are doodle icons! They're the first doodle icons. That makes them awesome and memorable: January 4, 2005 & January 8, 2005. And really? Who doesn't love 308. I shun you. No, just kidding. With Gus Appreciation Weekend on March 5, 2005 came Gus icons a few days later, yay! One day, Randy and Peter were hanging out at a DVD signing and someone came along and took their picture while they were eating. The following result was complete fandom squee and Ree's icons on March 1, 2005. What would happen if Gale Harold had an LJ? What would his icons look like? Wonder no more! We found out what they'd look like on March 14, 2005. Awesome icons came from some icon requests. Strong homo, yes. They were posted on March 31, 2005. Awww! My first comment to Reeface! Um, I was still intimidated by the greatness I see. It went something like this: REMEMBER HOW IN APRIL WE WERE ALL BROKEN BECAUSE QAF WAS ENDING SOON? ME TOO. Ree made icons that pretty much said how I was feeling about the whole thing. Still broken. Will not be repaired. Thank god for nostalgia. Oh and there were also hysterical "Randy and Gale are going to be out of work and Randy doesn't give a shit about Qaf and Gale will act for weed, kay?" icons. They were epic. These icons came around on April 19, 2005: The Some Lovin' video was so hot. Wasn't it? Icons arrived on April 29, 2005: The Qaf/South Park icons were revisited on October 5, 2005! Then it was Christmas time again and great icons to be shared on November 21, 2005. Randy Harrison on George Washington's Birthday! March 14, 2006, St. Patty's Day icons! I think that it's pretty safe to say people squeed themselves out at the thought of Randy playing Amadeus. Randy crawling around on the stage and chasing his wife while making farty sounds and inappropriate jokes? Yes please. Not only that but we also got foreign!Randy speaking French and Italian. Rawr. The squee came with icons on April 3, 2006. Yay! It was time for Easter icons on April 6, 2006. And then it was like, well what about the Passover! Let's remember Passover! And Ree was all, "Okay!" And so there were icons posted on April 11, 2006 for the Passover! (Every time I type Passover, I type password. :|) What! Randy was totally on a roll with the plays that he was doing. Yep. Shakespeare. Randy's a fairy and we saw the proof on April 19, 2006. And then came the second annual Gus Appreciation weekend on May 5, 2006! There were many wonderful Gus icons to be had that came with the appreciation weekend posted on May 8, 2006. OMGZ AND THEN GALE HAD HIS OWN TV SHOW! So glad that Gale and Randy were out there in the world ... working. Gale was in Deadwood, remember? Ah, Timothy Oly-fantastic and Gale Howard in the same room. Little Broken Hearts Club dream come true for me. Too bad they didn't get all up in each other. :( Icons posted on June 16, 2006! Vanished was getting closer and closer and all the promos that were coming out made for awesome screencaps and Reequips! Reequips = Ree making icons with her own humorous quips. It's a new word. Use it. Icons were posted on July 10, 2006. There was a great little group of Simmers who Simmed, Queer as Folk. I remember there being a Sim video set to Britney Spears, Toxic? I wonder if I still have that somewhere. So, there were many, many a great icon post made dedicated to those Sims. There's a post of Sim!Brian and Sim!Justin. Then came more icons about the whole Sim!Queer as Folk bunch, and more of them, more of them, some more in here, and then even more! They're all fantastic. Ooh. There is one more here that I almost missed. Christmas time in December! It was like a Christmas explosion! Icons were posted on December 4, 2006 and many rejoiced. You can find them all here, here, and here. You know what guys? Fandom = Fight Club. This was true on December 15, 2006. *nod* It was Queer as Valentine's Day on February 10, 2007. Randy was a busy bee in '07 and in '09, he still is. Hee. Find the busy bee icons posted here on March 8, 2007. There was hilarious signage made for It's July 4th and B/J, G/R remain patriotic. Posted on July 3, 2007. It was also time for Pride on July 12, 2007. Pride! Okay. These icons have come damn close to being my favorite. They're LJ Qaf/Gale/Randy icons and therefore amazing. I know, I have no other description to use but that word and variances on that word because it's true. Check them out. They were posted on August 24, 2007. After Gale was unceremoniously removed from his Christmas came early on December 11, 2007! You know, random icons? Always good. They don't need a reason or holiday. I approve. They appeared on January 28, 2008. Gale is dorky. Peter said so. He said it around June 26, 2008. Ree is also known for her fabulous doodles of all things worth doodling, am I right? She also does this wonderful bad!fic doodles. What are bad!fic doodles? They're traditionally doodles that have been created to display the occasional (not so occasional) spelling error made in bad!fics. Bad!fics are known for their bad spelling and grammar but also make for hysterical drawings. Here, have some icons posted on August 5, 2008. Yay! Gale was back on television again! He's on a major network show! Let's celebrate with icons on August 8, 2008. Woo! 08/08/08! Remember that little picture that Susan's son drew on Desperate Housewives? Icons on October 25, 2008! Christmas came that year on December 19, 2008! There was a doodle picture with this that I'll be linking but the link is on that page too. Yet another bad!fic doodle of love on January 14, 2009. Now we're catching up to the present so you'll remember most of these I'm sure. B/J & G/R & L/N are drugs. We were told this on January 19, 2009. We love Gale. We don't need a reason to love him other than new photos of him being awesome. Icons posted on March 27, 2009. Omg, remember that big 'ol hat that Aretha wore during the inauguration? Yeah. Those icons were all over the place, weren't they? Ree made them for our little corner of the world on April 18, 2009. More Gale on Desperate Housewives icons on May 9, 2009! One of my favorite bad!fic doodle icons and not just because it's dedicated to me, but because it's hysterical. Posted on June 23, 2009. So, I think that I'm all caught up on her icons for Queer as Folk anyway. You mean that there are more awesome icons that she does? You are correct my friends. When Ree ventured into the world of Luke and Noah on As the World Turns, I went all Scooby Doo on her. "Bzzzzuhhh?" Were my exact words if I remember correctly. But, what can I say, pretty, good looking men in a dramatic/sweet storyline on television? Count me in. Not only has she made wonderful icons for that fandom but also incredible recaps that are not only detailed but her observations are hee-larious. Coming up in Part II!
