I APOLOGIZE THIS IS A BELATED BIRTHDAY GREETING. I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS TODAY AND I'VE COME TO DISCOVER THAT IT WAS NOT TODAY. IT WAS YESTERDAY. I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT ACKNOWLEDGING YOU ON YOUR ACTUAL BIRTHDAY.
I WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW THAT I THINK THAT YOU ARE AN AWESOME, FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL PERSON. NOT ONLY ARE YOU INCREDIBLY SUPPORTIVE, A FANTASTIC LISTENER, AND OFTEN TIMES, A BRAINTWIN, BUT YOU'RE ALSO RIDICULOUSLY AESTHETICALLY TALENTED AND SOMEONE WHO I WANT TO SEE ENTRIES FROM EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I MEAN, REALLY. I THINK THAT YOU ARE A BUCKET OF AWESOMESAUCE.
DID I MENTION THAT I THINK YOU'RE AN INCREDIBLY TALENTED ARTIST?
YOU KNOW WHAT? I'D COMMISSION YOU TO DO A JUSTIN-SIZED (AKA WALL SIZED) IMAGE FOR ME TO HANG IN MY ROOM OR LIVING ROOM OR ANYWHERE ELSE BECAUSE I KNOW THAT IT WILL BE GORGEOUS. I JUST KNOW IT WILL BE BECAUSE YOUR TASTE IS IMPECCABLE AND YOUR EYE FOR GORGEOUS THINGS (TEXTURES, COLORS, ETC) IS SO REFINED.
I'D LOOK AT ANYTHING YOU DO BECAUSE IT'S ALL SO BEAUTIFUL, LIKE YOU.
SO, YOU KNOW WHAT?
I HOPE THAT YOU HAD A FANTASTIC BIRTHDAY AND I WILL REMEMBER TO GREET ON ACTUAL DAY NEXT YEAR. OKAY? OKAY.
HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS TO
Oh, friend! I hope that you have the happiest, bestest birthday ever with Mr. Rhi, little Cecily, and all your loved ones. You've gone from being one of my favorite fandom authors that I was way too intimidated to talk to in the beginning to a true friend and I just want you to know how much I appreciate you. I am also so happy that you were born today, yay! So go eat more cake and get some presents! Love you! ♥!
This is late already (you mean I actually have to work at work now?) but I just wanted to say happiest of birthdays to bigboobedcanuck. You're such a supremely talented writer, passionate fandom fan, and I love reading your entries and it's been really great getting to know you. So, I hope you have a fantastic day, bb! ♥
Apparently I can't figure out how to buy virtual gifts anymore so you get a post in lieu of one (and in lieu of the birthday/Christmas gift(s) that haven't been put together yet). So, happiest of birthdays to the awesome url_girl! I wish you nothing but the best, my friend. I hope that you're doing well and that you come back sometime soon. Love you! ♥
Last year's url_girl birthday extravaganza can be found here, here, and here. ♥
1. Happiest of birthdays to my bestie, C! I know you pop in every once in a while so I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday here too to cover all my social media bases. I think I've been writing you a message in here ever since I had this journal so I'm keeping up with tradition, right? ♥
Another happy birthday to ayesakara whose love of all things Gale is endless and that is never a bad thing. I'm so glad that I'm getting to know you a little better, friend! I owe you an overdue e-mail, definitely. Will send that off to you soon. ♥
2. It's a brand new month and I've decided I need a little more focus and need to get some things done this month. So, I'm giving myself the challenge of doing NaBloPoMo. It's easier to do these since I have a Blackberry now and I don't have an excuse to miss a day. The theme of this month is Looking Up as in "things are looking up" and I think that that's an important message to convey. So, I'll be writing something once a day. I'm going to try to make some public entries but there are some that I have to lock up and those are going into the 'friends only' zone.
3. I'm also gonna do the 30 day meme even though May is 31 days. No biggie.
( 30 Day Meme. )
There are birthdays today! Happiest of birthdays to suzvoy and mozart1313 two wonderful ladies who will be getting individual messages now.
suzvoy: Oh, Suz! I think that you're so talented and intelligent and a saint to put up with everything that you put up with in your life. I admire your strength and your sense of humor and think that you're a generally awesome person all around. ♥
For anyone who hasn't seen it, you should all be a witness to the wonderful Twilight (yes, I said Twilight) recaps that she's posted here and here and there's even an awesome video right over here. I mean, they're all brilliant. It actually makes me want to watch Twilight and I never thought that I'd say that in my life.
mozartfan1313: I love how opinionated you are and I especially appreciate all of your film reviews, notes, comments, etc. I think that you're going to do great, great things with your life and hopefully you'll take your flist along with the ride! I'm so glad that we've known each other this long in this little LJ world and that will continue for years to come. ♥
No, I'm not home yet but I'm almost there. I'm in Korea again waiting for the next flight. I think that it's in another 40 minutes or so. We'll be leaving here around 7 in the evening and arriving in California at 1 in the afternoon. Good times, good times. There are just a few things that I wanted to say in case I don't get around to posting tonight from sheer exhaustion:
1. THANK YOU for all the birthday messages/virtual gifts/PMs/e-mails/posts! I'm going to reply individually but for now it's just one group thank you so much! You guys always make my birthday special when I see those messages posted. I did see all the messages since I read my flist almost daily.
2. Thank you for the replies to any previous posts I made while overseas. They're flist locked since they're personal but I just wanted to say thank you for those. I can always count on you guys! There's no doubt about that.
3. Happiest of birthdays to severina2001! Oh, girl. I heart you so much. I don't know what I've done without you all this time, for serious. I'm almost done with Oz but I don't want it to end! I just want it to go on forever ... and it will! Through fics. Yes? Yes. I hope that you have the happiest birthday, EVER! I know that the Ultimate Reunion of All Universal Time will make it a fantastic day. Talk to you when I get back! ♥
4. In conclusion, flist love to the extreme and I can't WAIT to get home!
Happiest of birthdays (belated) to ohfreckle! Sorry bb. I was gone all day and didn't get to wish you a happy birthday on your day. I wish you an absolutely fantastic year and all the life happiness and fandom happiness that you deserve. ♥
May I also add to the above "... loves Justin!" It just wouldn't fit with my theme. :|
Again, there are a million things I totally love about Ree and if you don't love her for her creations, her graphics, her doodles, then there's more. Yes, there's more. Ree's never lost her love for fandom or fandom squee particularly concerning Queer as Folk, Gale
Howard Harold, and Queer as Folk's Randy Harrison. She's an equal squee opportunist when it comes to the above. Let's take a little trip down memory lane, shall we?
( The Chronology of Ree. )
I've developed a new language of Ree.
Reecap: Ree's recaps on ... anything!
Reecon: Ree's icons made by Ree for me or icons that I just find to be so particularly Ree.
Reeism: Something says off-hand in a comment that is totally BRILLIANT. Brilliant defined as hilarious, hysterical, SOTRUEOMG, so true and you didn't realize it was true, totally agree.
Ree Reference Guide: This right here. Your reference guide to all things Ree (graphics, icons, doodles, pastede on hedz, etc)
Reeventures: Adventures in which Ree goes to an event that's Qaf alum related!
Edited to add: ... how amazing and kind that I think she is because she answers all of her comments. I mean, years and years past, you drop a line and when she gets back she'll answer. I mean, that's just dedication and replying to comments just shows that you've read what that person has said and you're acknowledging it. That's why we're in this large LJ landscape, is it not? So, for her to go through and answer her comments? I really admire that about her. ♥
And that's about it!
As I said, Ree joined Luke and Noah fandom and went in full force! When I discovered L/N, all I had to do was look back at her posts and not only was I entertained, I was all caught up and just as interested in the story. "Interested" is an understatement.
Ree first wrote about the pairing on Jan. 22, 2008. Then can the icons and there have been many of them.

The Daytime Emmy Award doodles that she did for the Luke and Noah fandom can be found here.
The thing about Ree is she is the most spoiler-free person I know. If there are spoilers on the 'net, then you keep them away from her. I've tried to do the spoiler-free thing but I am usually unsuccessful. Ree? She is made of STEEL or something else that makes you completely indestructible to the spoilers that roam the net. I didn't think it was possible but Ree has proven that it is possible. Therefore, I will forever remember the day that she willingly broke her spoiler resistance and Luke and Noah are the couple who made her do it. It is an event that is to be written in the reference guide. It happened on January 10, 2009.
Back to Part I
Forward to Part III
So, I started this little project because I wanted to look back and find some icons that I remember wanting to save again in url_girl's journal. It started out innocently enough. Then, I just kept going through icons and posts after posts of really memorable moments that I wanted to post about for nostalgia purposes. Finally, I just decided to turn it into a Ree Raid Project.
Fandom is an interesting place. Ultimately, fandom can be a very happy place and I think that Ree's journal is that happy place. She's posted icons, written stories, pastede on hedz that make everyone laugh. She's not selfish with her offerings, always willing to share something that she finds with everyone so that many can see what they may not be able to see where they are (example: Qaf alum activities but particularly Gale and Randy). So, in honor of her birthday and her five year anniversary here on LJ, we have the Ode to Ree.
Ree's first icons date back to August 16, 2004. Now, I've always loved her icons. Why? You know you have a great icon maker when they immediately catch your eye (in a good way). Look at her sense of humor:
So, I think that I'm all caught up on her icons for Queer as Folk anyway. You mean that there are more awesome icons that she does? You are correct my friends. When Ree ventured into the world of Luke and Noah on As the World Turns, I went all Scooby Doo on her. "Bzzzzuhhh?" Were my exact words if I remember correctly. But, what can I say, pretty, good looking men in a dramatic/sweet storyline on television? Count me in. Not only has she made wonderful icons for that fandom but also incredible recaps that are not only detailed but her observations are hee-larious. Coming up in Part II!
Even Gale's suspicious about his own age. Forty really is the new thirty, isn't it?
Gale, it is your birthday.
friday82 made a fantastic, fantastic Gale tribute in her journal. We're talking lots and lots of Gale goodies. Let me link you:
And the always awesometastic url_girl made a mix for Mr.
Howard Harold on his 40th. You can find it right here.
Also! Also! A year ago today I interviewed for a job and got it (after several months of unemployment) so yet another reason to celebrate today, yay! It's really a good day over all isn't it?
Oh and apparently not a lot of people have heard this story. I posted this on friday82's journal this morning: I know the people who were at the Paley Festival will get this but one of my favorites is when everyone in the panel was talking about how they got the job on Queer as Folk. They told their usual stories, nothing that anyone hasn't heard before, and then when they got to Gale he said, "I WON IT AT A RAFFLE!" It was loud, enthusiastic, and complete with southern accent. Everyone laughed and then it got silent, waiting for him to continue to tell the real story, but he just kind of shrugged and said that that was all that he wanted to say and then they moved on to someone else.
Seriously. Kills me every time I think about it.
For starters today, birthday question. Is it lennongirl's birthday? Ani, if it's your birthday today or tomorrow or yesterday, happy birthday! I'm sure that you're doing something awesome over there at home. Hee.
Now in relation to Six Feet Under, as you know or don't know, I had a Six Feet Under marathon recently. I watched the series over a week and will probably be rewatching the episodes in the next few weeks to be able to digest more of it. It really is so poignant and so incredibly well-written and it probably has the best series finale that I've seen, ever. No weird fade to blacks, no last happy scene without knowing about what happened to them in the future. Charmed came close to this but of course not as powerful or insightful.
That said, there are a lot of issues brought up throughout the series but one in particular stood out to me. Lost recaps constantly observe that any time anyone on that show has an issue, it's usually a "Daddy Issue". Six Feet Under wasn't an exception. There was Keith's feelings toward his father. Nathaniel Sr. popped up throughout the entire series and the children analyzed their relationship with him. In Queer as Folk, Brian's father beat him and Michael never knew his father and Justin's dad disowned him.
Why do you think that television shows explore the father dynamic more than the mother dynamic? Is it more powerful to explore the more masculine dynamic? Is it just because fathers do often abandon their children or cause some kind of traumatic experience in childhood that continues to affect that child as an adult?
I'm always thinking about the parental dynamic in Disney movies because the fathers are almost always around and they kill the mothers. In movies that aren't animated, the girl raised by her father (without any siblings or female siblings) always appears as a tomboy because she hasn't had that female exposure. Disney female characters (princesses) seen so in touch with their femininity.
So, why is the paternal dynamic more prevalent in television?
I just cried while watching the trailer. I'm a sucker.
On that happy note, a very happy, happy birthday to juteux! Just saw that you're spending it with some good food and wine and no, I can't think of anything better than that. Happy 24th, welcome to the club and enjoy your day and enjoy tonight! <3
I didn't want to miss saying a v. v. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the one and only jenepherre! I hope that you had an absolutely wonderful day Jen because you deserve it and me thinks it should be filled with a lot of Black Gold, Panic goodness since you love it so much. Kay? Kay. ♥
Definitely gonna hang out some time this summer! It's gonna happen. Oh yeah.
Aw, paddies. One of my first LJ friends ever back in 2003. Thank you so much for still hanging around with your book recs! Toss in a RL update every once in a while, kay? Kay. I hope that you have an awesome day today even though it is most likely over in Italy. :)
