I don't think I'm watching any new television this season. What shows are you guys watching or which shows do you think are interesting enough to check out? I need recommendations.

Oh and I don't know what this Facebook and Twitter thing is but I'd like to think that we all want to keep LiveJournal to ourselves, right here in our little world so ... no sharing! Kthx.

I just saw them filming something yesterday! I didn't even know it was still on the air, lol. I just assume everything gets canceled.

Thanks for the recs! For some reason all the USA shows just seem kind of the same to me even though I know there's a lot of pretty going around. I'm also not really into spy shows. Ha, poor Supernatural! That's another one I could never get into ... strangely enough because Jensen Ackles was a soap star and flooded the teenage mags with his face and it annoyed me. Those spots should've been reserved for Jonathan Taylor Thomas, damnit!

No one I know in RL (that I haven't met through LJ) knows I have one - I'd rather keep the degree of my wacky obsessing to myself.

I don't know the name of it, but there's a new FOX show with Martha Plimpton that looks good. Hopefully I'll remember to check it out on Hulu.

Ha, very true. Although, people know I have one. They could be looking at this right now. Hi, people! On the other hand, they know how obsessed I am about everything. But, LJ takes it up a notch.

Oh! Right. There's something about a baby in there. I saw the promos. That one looks interesting.

MY REC: Right now I just wish you were watching The Gates. I've tried to promote it but people as usual don't trust me and I wish I had more Dylan/Nick fans in my flist I could talk to. Whenever I see all the LuRe fic that appears everyday I think "how much I wish we had a 1% of this for Dylan/Nick".. so seriously, this total lack of fic and friends who watch it is VERY depressing.

About new shows I'll tell you when I start watching any because I don't know right now.. I think the shows I have in mind like Facing Kate and others are not starting yet. (Not new I could rec you many..)

I think the premise of The Gates is really interesting but everyone just looks really plastic and it's a summer show on ABC so it's unlikely that it's going to stick around. I mean, that's just a fact. I certainly don't trust the network but I have more faith in fall shows because that's the television season. I guess the reason I don't start new shows is because I don' want to see them canceled but if there's some kind of buzz around them, they're just a little less likely to get canceled.

Well, we don't agree then. When I like a show I'll watch it whenever it airs, summer or winter and if doesn't get a second season it doesn't make it worse. Many of my favorite shows only have one season and that's very sad but I love them anyway. I didn't know you'd not watch it for these reasons.

but everyone just looks really plastic

Yes, maybe a couple of characters at first but once you get into more episodes it doesn't feel that way.. at least not to me and more people. It depends on what you expect as well. Yesterday I was reading a comment about somebody who said she was grateful she had read the fic and watched more because she had a wrong idea and sadly I guess that's why some people have about it. Some storylines are weaker but just for the some characters it's worthy for me.. although probably not for you so yeah, forget I said anything.

EDIT: In case my comment sounds like I'm upset or something lol... I just talk that way about this show and others, can't help it but yeah, I'm aware that people think like you so I feel like I shouldn't bother sometimes and don't know why I do it afterwards.

I've definitely been programmed to watch television by seasons under the theory "if a show airs during the summer, then it probably sucks" because the regular television season is in the fall. Same applies to shows in the winter. This depends on networks though. Lifetime has found success with their summer shows, Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva. For the most part, network shows -- shows that air on ABC, NBC, FOX -- during the summer, have a limited chance of survival. But, for me personally, I've never discovered a show during this time that I regret not watching when it aired.

It just seems like I've seen it before when it comes down to it. I mean, there was Charmed and I saw it and I enjoyed it. I like my share of the supernatural but something doesn't click for me with The Gates.

No, I understand! I'm pretty passionate about television too and I know what it's like to enjoy something and have no one share your interest in it. I admire your attempt at getting me to change my mind, lol. It's just not going to happen.

(sorry, I missed this reply.)

I see what you mean and honestly, now I think about it and I don't even know why I told you, I'd have realized that you'd not be interested no matter what actors were involved. I admit that when it comes to you I'm pretty lost about what kind of shows you like and don't like.. so I never know what to rec you. I hope I'll learn about this is the future.

Mmm, you know, I haven't actually paid much attention to the new shows. Of the new shows the only ones so far on the list are Law and Order L.A. cause I'm a L&O junkie and Hellcats for the Galeface but that one is probably going to be a ff to his scenes only so it doesn't really count.

Ugh! I am hating that new "feature". *shakes fist at LJ*
I try to keep my fanish obsessions to a minimum in RL. I mean I even keep my collection of TV shows on DVD separate from the "family" DVD collection.

I mean really LJ do you think I want people in RL to know about my obsession with the Vampire Diaries and Supernatural and how I basically drool over Ian and Jensen? yea, no thanks.

Also, a lot of us belong to some of those wonderful but questionable "sharing" comms and I really don't think it's a good idea for non LJ people to be able snoop around profile pages at random. The people I want to know that I have an LJ know about it already thanks.

Oh! That's right. I was gonna check out L&O: LA too. Hellcats only for Gale. That's a given. They're having some kind of premiere party that I was going to go to but it's after it airs on TV so that's kind of dumb.

LOL I know! I don't know what they were thinking about this. How many people are on LJ for fannish reasons? The majority. I think the people using these journals for RL are in the minority.

I'm totally confused by this Twitter, FB thing. But I don't have a FB under my real name because the thought is terrifying, so I guess I don't really care.

For new shows, I might give Hawaii 5-0 a try for Alex O'Loughlin. Other than that, I'll probably just wait and see what the buzz is on my flist and other places. I haven't really heard a lot about the new shows yet, but EW's fall issue should be out soon. In the meantime, I'm going to marathon Modern Family this weekend since I've only heard raves.

For existing shows, VAMPIRE DIARIES. It's seriously so entertaining. My fave show of last season, and I expected it to be terrible. But it's funny and dramatic and I love all the characters. I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I adore it. Also, you should definitely try White Collar. Matt Bomer is so pretty and the bromance is epic. It's a perfect mix of crime capers of the week and an overarching mystery. A complete joy.

Excellent point. If I didn't have so many family members/friends embracing the FB revolution I'd certainly get rid of it. But, I don't think anyone would repost from here. That's stupidity.

I'm thinking about Hawaii 5-0 for Jin from Lost, ha. So, considering that. I think that I'm going to wait too to see what's going on. Nothing really appeals to me. I will vouch for Modern Family! Certainly one of the most original series that I've seen lately.

Vampire Diaries I'm definitely considering. I mean, Ian. Oh and I might watch Nikita because I have a little girl crush on Maggie Q. That's another vote for White Collar! Looks like I'm gonna give that one a shot. :D Thanks for the recs, bb!

I have some "real life" friends who bug me every so often to get a FB. I refuse. First off because I simply don't like it. I don't find the interface pleasing at all. It's all jumbled and way too busy. Then there's the fact that I don't want any fandom/real life crossover that I'm not in charge of. Thirdly, because work people would find me and friend me, and I'd have to friend them back. And people from high school! NO THANKS.

I remember before VD premiered, my friends and I had an email chain about it, sharing articles, etc., and laughing about how much it was going to suck. Then we were all like, "Um...I actually like it. A lot." Biggest surprise of the season, hands down. I mean, it's a teenaged vampire show, so it's not Mad Men (which I also love!). But I think they did a great job plotting S1. It hung together so well, and they've had a lot of plot twists that have genuinely shocked/surprised me, which isn't easy to do.

WHITE COLLAR

Hee. It's my favorite new show. The epic bromance is epic. :P It's an awesome show. It's currently in it's second season on USA network, but next week's episode is the last one until January. :'( Sad day. It's about an FBI agent in the White Collar division teaming up with a con-artist to catch bad guys. :P

Also Criminal Minds. That's my other favorite show. I wasn't thrilled with last season, but the new season starts soon and will hopefully be better. The next season will be it's sixth. The first four seasons are awesome. None are available online *legally* but I have my ways, if you're interested. :P CM is about an FBI team of criminal profilers. It's pretty awesome.

White Collar it is! Yet another vote for it. Looks like I'm gonna give that one a shot.

I don't have any interest in Criminal Minds but thank you for the rec!

Doooo eet!! :P Seriously, I could not rec White Collar enough. Especially for lovers of boy/boy romance. ;) There isn't an "official" relationship like that on the show, but the bromance factor more than makes up for it. ;) If you dislike spoilers, though, you might want to stay away from [livejournal.com profile] whitecollar_tv. Everything is under a cut, of course, but this fandom has soooooo many spoilers it's ridiculous. I already know most of what is going to happen when the show returns in January, lol.

For most of the season one episodes, I've had to download them to get good quality. And a few of the episodes, including the pilot, are ridiculously hard to find without downloading them. :'( But at least now I can watch them whenever I want. :D :D

Also, Matt Bomer is so pretty it should be illegal. And he wears suits every episode. And often there's a shirtless scene. This show is so good to me. :D

I'm a downloader from way back, bb. I can watch them that way. Thank you for telling me about the community! I'll stay away for now until I'm finished and caught up. I have another show to marathon and I'll get started on this one. I've definitely stared at Matt Bomer's pretty. I know he'll grow on me by watching him in a TV show.

Oh, I agree. "White Collar" is fun and breezy, and the bromance is too great. The pilot is awesome; the next several episodes were not strong, but then it hit its stride!

I know nothing about the new Fall shows yet. Will wait for the Fall Preview issue of our local tv listings mag to read their reviews and make my choices.

But there are some returning shows I'm looking forward to. Spartacus: Blood & Sand is excellent if you don't count the first episode. The first ep was kinda bad, but it quickly gets better and is epically awesome by the end of Season 1. I highly recommend it. Just be prepared for a little too much blood & gore, and fairly graphic sex.

Hmm, what else. I like Brothers & Sisters and Parenthood. Weeds, Rescue Me, and The Tudors are all starting here soon, although they may have already aired in the US. Californication and Dexter are great! Dexter should be first on this list actually.... it's one of the best shows on TV.

I see that you don't like summer shows much, and I understand that. Summer shows used to suck. But there have actually been a few good ones this season. Particularly Haven and Rookie Blue. Scoundrels was pretty good too. Doesn't really matter if they don't return... they were still fun to watch.

Also Big Love, Nurse Jackie, and United States of Tara. And I think you know of my True Blood obsession. This season hasn't been as good as the first two, but still... you gotta check it out.

I'm interested to know what you think of White Collar too. I watched the first season and only found it okayish. I like Matt Bomer's character and relationship with his partner, but the stories tend to bore me.

I just noticed the Facebook and Twitter thing now. What a breach of privacy! I'm going to have to make sure no one on my LJ FList "shares" any of my entries. I like that LJ is a separate, private world.
